I am a native San Diegan! I attended elementary, junior high and high school in Point Loma, where I played on the tennis team, gymnastic team and performed in the school orchestra (cello). My extra curricular activities included Girl Scouts, Kanoi Club, and piano lessons.
Growing up in a family which was predominantly in the field of teaching, I followed suit at San Diego State University and UCSD, earning my degrees in Child Development, Computers in Education Certificate and various Montessori (in house AMI & AMS) training at Mission Bay Montessori Academy. While teaching and assisting in administration at Mission Bay Montessori, computers hit the scene and I was hooked! I soon developed one of the first Montessori computer curriculum and a music program for elementary ages. I formed the first MBMA elementary chorus, wrote and produced 15 musicals and taught piano, recorder and guitar lessons. I retired from Mission Bay Montessori after a very satisfying 27 years.
I have three wonderful children, who were afforded a Montessori education. Annie, my oldest graduated in 2007 from LMU in Los Angeles with a degree in Graphic Design, who now works for Sony Style in Rancho Bernardo. Tim graduated from Cornell University in December 2007 with a degree in Bio Engineering and continues his studies in the PHD Bio Medical Engineering program at UCSD. Mary Kate, my youngest is a junior at Rancho Bernardo High School, dedicated to a classical and contemporary ballet regiment. I am very proud of all my children and look forward to becoming a grandparent, who will gently nudge my children to educate in the Montessori way!
MCDC came into my life just in time! I thought I had retired, but realized I was quite bored being a stay at home mom and was ever grateful Marijane had an opening in her wonderful school. It is a true blessing and gift to work daily with such talented teachers, students, administrator and parents.
