Elizabeth Webb, Co-Teacher Downstairs

Hello, my name is Betty Webb “Ms. Betty” to the children here at MCDC.

I am the assistant teacher in Ms. Angela’s downstairs class. I have been here at MCDC since February of 2008. Although I am new here at MCDC, I am not new to teaching. When my son, (now 20 years old) entered kindergarten at Olive Elementary School in Vista, Ca, I became a volunteer in his class. I loved working with the children so much I took the Vista Unified School District test and became a part time teacher assistant. Working only the hours my son attended school allowed me to be a fulltime mom with part-time jobs. For the past ten years, I also taught a two-hour nursery Sunday school class for 18 month to 3 year olds for my church.

Prior to teaching, here at MCDC I attended Miramar College, where I earned the required ECE (Early Childhood Education) units and received a Child Development Associate Teacher Permit. I was then hired as an assistant preschool teacher at the Miramar College Child Development Center. I continue to take child development classes majoring in Early Childhood Education. The most recent class I completed was Child Nutrition, Health and Safety. I am looking forward furthering my education by studying Montessori Teaching.

I live in Poway with my husband, Max and our youngest son of four children, Joey and our dog, Jalapeno. By nature, I am an outdoors, nature and adventure person. I like hiking, biking and bird watching. The children here at MCDC love watching the different types of birds in our garden and countryside playground and I love being able to identify them. I have gone on several hiking trips in Yosemite National Park and hike to the top of their famous Half Dome. I have enjoyed the beauty of hiking the Grand Canyon. My favorite adventure was a 3 day, 30-mile calm water trip down the Colorado River in kayak. I am always involved with the community and love to serve others.

I have learned some of life’s most valuable lessons from preschool children: to greet each day with eagerness and enthusiasm, to delight in new discoveries and most important to pursue adventures despite obstacles. As I teach here at MCDC, I am sure each child will teach me more.
